Cisco’s annual Global Sales Experience (GSX) (later renamed IMPACT) brings together roughly 30,000 team members to recognize the top sellers from across the globe. The 3-day event is packed with keynotes, workshops, and now a challenging game show. “The Elevator Pitch” calls upon contestants to give their best sales pitch within just sixty seconds — the extent of an elevator ride. They must convince the imaginary client how Cisco’s products and technology strategies can exceed the needs of their business. To add to the pressure, participants’ performance is broadcast to the room where hundreds of their colleagues are cheering them on. The contestant then returns to the show floor where a set of judges critique and score the performance based on content, body language, and delivery. Their score is recorded in the ever-revolving Top 20 leaderboard looming overhead — adding a bit of friendly competition among Cisco’s top sellers.
Following the insane success of The Elevator Pitch at GSX19, we worked to bring the gameshow back to the renamed event, IMPACT20. With the popularity of the game also came the need for a designated area to rehearse materials and polish selling techniques. Drills & Skills became the place to warm-up the body and purge any jitters before entering the main event. The gameplay took note from the learnings of the previous year and made the challenge more Cisco-centric.
Thus was born The Pitch: Corner Office Edition.
The new and improved Pitch structure became the central feature of IMPACT20 to which attendees would meet, network, learn, and orient themselves in the space. The form was reminiscent of a utopian cityscape while the construction was frame and sleeve to be used for future events. Beyond the automatic swinging doors, was a fully equipped soundstage facing a globally-minded executive office.
